Capel Court has since its outset been deeply involved in the local community. These days this is known as “Corporate Social Responsibility” or CSR for short.
A recent initiative in this area by the Essex Education Business Partnership is “Passport 2 Success”, a mentoring scheme for local schoolchildren, bringing together the worlds of education and business.
Mark Howell is a ‘Business Ambassador’ for this project, and is currently acting as a mentor for a year 11 school pupil. His commitment is to hold 12 sessions with the pupil at which ambitions, aspirations and goals are discussed and developed. Hopefully Mark’s real-world business experience brings a touch of practicality, to the decision-making process as well as some inspiration, motivation and confidence to pursue potential and set goals.
Andrew Phillips has for some time been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. ‘The D of E Award’, as it is called, encourages young people (between the ages of 15 and 25), to think for themselves, and to build their skills and social awareness through sporting and cultural activities, teamwork and service. Andrew helps out with service and skills activities, and particularly enjoys the expedition training and organisation.
